DUI Penalties for Alcohol
Because each state has its own set of DUI laws, the penalties for DUI also vary, depending on the state laws that govern the defendant. All of them, however, have the potential to be severe.
One of the harshest penalties is losing one’s driver’s license until the end of the case hearing. Other than that, one may also have to pay fines, or face detention in the local jail. Another penalty may also be the requirement of ignition interlock devices at all times.
Common penalties are being required to attend several alcohol education programs. These programs often contain lectures that are given by MADD, SADD, or RADD. One might also be faced with community services of freeway clean-up, the number of hours though, depend on the judge.
Another penalty that might be considered harsh, is being filed with a criminal charge, which usually happens when someone dies or is heavily injured because of the accident.
These consequences give out a clear message that acts of irresponsibility, especially on the road, would not be tolerated in any way.
